Bilingual Read-Along Books

Keep your language alive in your children.

Far from the islands, our children are growing up hearing English everywhere and their mother tongue only at home. These are read-along storybooks that let them hear every word in their own language, tap any word to hear it again, and read together with you — wherever in the world you are raising them.

Made by Pasifika parents, for Pasifika families in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and across the Pacific.

They hear it said properly

Every word is read aloud in the mother tongue by a native speaker, and lights up as it is spoken. Children can tap any word to hear it again β€” so they learn the sound, not just the spelling.

A bridge to the grandparents

When children keep the language, they keep the relationships β€” with grandparents, with aunties and uncles, with the village. Read it together, or let them read it to you.

The collection

My First 100 Samoan Words

The everyday words of home — greetings, family, food, church, bedtime — told through Amoleka’s day. Written by Vaoese Kava, a Samoan mother raising her own children in the diaspora, and read aloud in her voice.

Why we made these

You speak it. Will they?

It happens quietly. You speak to them in your language and they answer in English. Then one day they visit the grandparents and cannot find the words. Researchers have a phrase for it — heritage language loss — and it can happen within two or three years of a child starting school, unless the language is kept alive at home.

Most reading apps will not help you with this. They are built for English, for a market of millions. Nobody is making beautiful, interactive books in Samoan, in Tongan, in the languages of our islands — so we are.

Every book you buy also helps put these books into Pacific Island classrooms, where children are learning to read in the language of their own village.

For schools & sponsors

Bring bilingual reading to a classroom.

$199 gives thirty children a year of reading in their own language.

School licences are annual and cover one class of up to 30 children. For Pacific Island schools, a sponsor can gift that access β€” and every school gets an instant 14-day trial the moment they apply, so no child waits while a sponsor is found.

Family

Buy a book once and it is yours to keep. Read at home on any device.

Sponsor a classroom

Gift a Pacific classroom a year of reading, with your dedication message.

Sponsor a classroom, a village, or a whole island

Many of us left the islands but never left them behind. A gift funds annual licences for real classrooms back home. You choose how your family, church, or village association is named, and you write the dedication the children see when they open the book.
